A sure sign of the start of summer in South Australia is the blooming of the glorious Jacaranda trees, which are intermittently planted throughout Adelaide. They are unexceptional trees, except for about two weeks, when they blossom into a lilac purple colour. They only last a short time before wind or rain blows it away. More geeky Jacaranda stuff here.

Indeed - the SA jacaranda is quite something. The North Yorkshire purple heather also is.
ReplyDeleteWhen we lived in Brisbane, locals solemnly assured us that the jacanda wouldn't survive any further south.
