Photo Hunt: Wide

The great wide expanse of Sellicks Beach. It was just us and a few cars yesterday afternoon on the way back from Granny's. I learned today that some vested interests had tried to push through a marina for this location. Very glad that got the kybosh. It is such a glorious expanse of open beach, sufficiently far from Adelaide that it is never too busy.

This is a great time of year here in South Australia, with great weather, hanging out in our pool, holidays, Christmas around the corner and cricket on the radio (and television). I have loved cricket since I grew up in Scotland. Being in Australia it is hard to avoid, which I like.

Tonight the cricket was from Perth, where Australia are hosting South Africa in a showdown between the number one and number 2 ranked test teams. I rarely have time to sit down and just watch cricket, but rather listen to the very entertaining coverage on the ABC. I was able to watch tonight outside by the pool while Elizabeth watched The Bill, because they played late due to the time difference and rain delays. The kids had gone to bed (ha ha ha), but they thought that it was a bit odd, and came out to take some photographs. They even caught one of me signalling a wide.

Merry Ho Ho Ho to all Photohunters and in fact to everyone.

  2. Greetings Colin!
I love the wide open beach...so beautiful. That is where Bud and I are going to go today. It's beautiful down here in South Texas too. So unlike most of the USA...warm and tropical

Happy holiday wishes to you. And yes, we can have the treats on my blog...stop by...then, afterwards we'll go have a BBQ steak, Texas style!!

Beautiful wide beach. You are lucky to have one so close to home. Great wide signal too. Have a Merry Christmas.

Great post! It seems so strange to me, people celebrating Christmas in a tropical environment; but perhaps it seems strange to you that we celebrate it with tons of snow and cold... lol.

I enjoyed your post. I always like learning about how people live in other parts of the world.

I did Photo Hunters today, too. I hope you can visit, and leave your link.

  7. When I said to the OS what shall I post for this week's wide theme, he said the same thing, being a cricket obsessed fiend who gets his fixes from cricinfo. Now how could one photograph a wide, I replied. But you managed.
I see you have a acquired the Australian barefoot habit which is ingrained in me too, even after all these years away.

  8. What a serene scene, Colin. I'm glad that stretch escaped the developers' shovels, too!

I think the holiday stress is getting to me - mine's a little dark and quirky, this week.

  9. Just ran over from David's Roast. I find you and your family to be quite remarkable. I enjoyed learning about you and how you got to Australia. One of my dearest friends in the world is from there and I'm always wanting to know when she's going back and if she's taking me with her...so far she's here for the long haul. So I guess I am, too. Enjoyed reading "if you're happy and you know it," and loved the video. I'll be sharing that with my sons, who appreciate anything Monty Pythonish...

  16. Hi there, popped over from David's after reading your roast. I spent Christmas in Sydney one year, I loved it but it did feel kind of surreal to see posters of Santa in sunglasses and swimming trunks! Hope you and yours have a good 'un - and a great Hogmany, too.

  18. Over from David's, loved your braids but I wonder... I thought Australia was 13 hrs ahead of the us here in NY but here in NY we're still in December 2008 .. I see by your photo timestamp you are actually a full YEAR ahead . blimey .. you OZ-ites really are on the cutting edge!

Hope you 2008 holidays were as nice as your 2009!

  19. Ha Ha (Ho Ho) Daryl. I blame the lead technologist in the family for that one and that would be me. I reset it recently. I actually hate date stamping other than for work, where it is very useful.

Happy Holidays to you and have a great 2010. :)
