A rabbit walks into a pub and says to the barman, 'Can I have a pint of beer, and a Ham and Cheese Toastie?'
The barman is amazed, but gives the rabbit a pint of beer and a ham and cheese toastie.
The rabbit drinks the beer and eats the toastie. He then leaves.
The following night the rabbit returns and again asks for a pint of beer, and a Ham and Cheese Toastie.
The barman, now intrigued by the rabbit and the extra drinkers in the pub, (because word gets round), gives the rabbit the pint and the Toastie. The rabbit consumes them and leaves.
The next night, the pub is packed.
In walks the rabbit and says, 'A pint of beer and a Ham and Cheese Toastie, please barman.'
The crowd is hushed as the barman gives the rabbit his pint and toastie, and then burst into applause as the rabbit wolfs them down
The next night there is standing room only in the pub.
Coaches have been laid on for the crowds of patrons attending.
The barman is making more money in one week than he did all last year
In walks the rabbit and says, 'A pint of beer and a Ham and Cheese Toastie, please barman,
The barman says, 'I'm sorry rabbit, old mate, old mucker, but we are right out of them Ham and Cheese Toasties...'
The rabbit looks aghast. The crowd has quietened to almost a whisper, when the barman clears his throat nervously and says, 'We do have a very nice Cheese and Onion Toastie.'
The rabbit looks him in the eye and says, 'Are you sure I will like it.'
The masses' bated breath is ear shatteringly silent.
The barman, with a roguish smile says, 'Do you think that I would let down one of my best friends. I know you'll love it.'
'Ok', says the rabbit, 'I'll have a pint of beer and a Cheese and Onion Toastie.'
The pub erupts with glee as the rabbit quaffs the beer and guzzles the toastie. He then waves to the crowd and leaves....
NEVER TO RETURN!!!!!!
-----
One year later, in the now impoverished public house, the barman, (who has only served 4 drinks tonight, 3 of which were his), calls time.
When he is cleaning down the now empty bar, he sees a small white form, floating above the bar. The barman says, 'Who are you?',
To which he is answered, 'I am the ghost of the rabbit that used to frequent your public house.'
The barman says, 'I remember you. You made me famous. You would come in every night and have a pint of beer and a Ham and Cheese Toastie. Masses came to see you and this place was famous.'
The rabbit says, 'Yes I know.' The barman said, 'I remember, on your last night we didn't have any Ham and Cheese Toasties. You had a Cheese and Onion one instead.'
The rabbit said, 'Yes, you promised me that I would love it. The barman said, 'You never came back, what happened?'
'I DIED', said the rabbit. 'NO!' said the barman. 'What from?'
After a short pause, the rabbit said...
'Mixin-me-toasties.'

Spotty and the Chickens

Yum!

OK. Time to come in now.

Where'd that bone go?
Spotty is such a good natured dog. He has tolerated 10 bantams, two ducks, a cat, two rabbits and now four bossy chickens. He even shares his food with them, along with his hutch. He is the only one allowed inside and that is where he prefers to be.

Photo Hunt: Lazy
There is a very fine line between relaxing and being lazy. Whatever it is Hannah, Ben and Daisy like to hang out in the sun. Spotty is also a sun worshipper. He is a master at finding that little area of reflected sunlight in the house. Of course it moves throughout the day, but you can be fairly sure that he will be there. As I write this he has just set himself up on the square foot of sunlight in the room. That or on somewhere comfortable like his bed or the couch or the cushion that Ryan is copying him with. Nothing like something comfortable to be lazy on..

Photo Hunt: Hanging (Out)

It gets pretty hot here in the summer and you can often see our rabbits, Ben and Daisy hanging out in the shade. They have the free run of our garden and the neighbourhood, although Ben is a bit fat to slip under the gate. They are not so visible at the moment since our new terrier finds them a great source of amusement. I had to rescue Ben from getting stuck in the fence after being chased around the garden and finding that his escape route was not wide enough. All entertainment for Rufus, exercise and annoyance for Ben and Daisy. I hope that Rufus has calmed down by the time the warm weather rolls around again.

How Rabbits Get Their Bounce
Ben and Daisy discovered the trampoline this week. Seems that staying in the garden makes them lazy and fat. Nothing like a bounce to shed those extra grams.

Why did Emperor Nasi Goring build the Great Wall of China?

To Keep Out the Rabbits!
That is the basis of the top rated commercial in Australia last year. After 22 years as a Postman, Patrick O'Meara gave it all up to be an actor and his first job was a fantastically successful advert for Telstra BigPond, the largest internet service provider in Australia. It tells the story of Chinese Emperor Nasi Goring and his plan to keep out the rabbits by building a large wall. Based upon my own experience with pet rabbits, this is a little bit of overkill. Unfortunately all this stumbling ignorance is at the expense of his knowledge hungry young son, who is about to present to his class. Better get Broadband and Replace Your Brain with Google seems to be the message.

Roaming Rabbit Alert

Public Notice
Wanted for Violating Terms of Probation, speeding and the theft of neighbourhood grass.
Grey Rabbit aka Daisy the Rabbit
The public, particularly those in the Kilkenny Area are warned to guard their lawns and young vegetables against a rabbit which has escaped from household detention and disappeared into the neighbourhood.
On no account are the public to approach the animal, which is considered very loveable and missed by her custodial guardians.
The public are asked to provide information on sightings directly to this blog.
Thank you in advance on behalf of Hannah and Ben the Brown Rabbit, who likes to hang out in the garden.
This will likely get a better coverage than neighbourhood posters, which I am sure we will be making in the next few days when Hannah realises that Daisy has gone. Losing animals is extremely stressful as a parent. Hannah is the worlds number 1 animal lovers (I am sure that there are others just like her, but I only know her).
When Spotty went missing one day, Hannah completely lost it. She was beside herself with worry. It was very unusual, because he never left the house by himself and found his way back from the park, the first time we went there and he was chased by a huge dog.
We made posters and put them up, we called the Animal Shelter, called the Council, looked around the neighbourhood, the house, the yard...everything that I could think of. About an hour later, I went to get something from the car and there was Spotty fast asleep. He had not managed to make it out of the car after our trip to the supermarket. Palpable sighs of relief from me and utter joy from Hannah.
When we went on holiday last year, Spotty went to stay with my friend Rod, who lived about two kilometres away in a different neighbourhood. We got a call from the house sitter one evening, that Spotty had turned up. She was in the living room and heard scratching on the window. She went out to look and there was Spotty. He had jumped the fence at the other house and come home. Cute, but annoying. Clever Boy.
I hope Daisy comes back, but the adults in the house are not holding their breath.
Update Daisy turned up this morning and we managed to catch her. Very happy Hannah. Thanks to the blogging community for assisting in this matter.

On the 23rd Day of Christmas........Two Wascaly Wabbits

The kids were very happy this morning, when we walked over to a friend of Elizabeth and picked up two 8 week old rabbits. Hannah has been bugging us for about a year to get some rabbits and had pretty much given up on us. We think that they are the same sex, but apparently if not they are ready to go for it now. They can be desexed at 12 weeks, so we are holding our breath. Regardless there is a boy bunny, Ben and a girl bunny, Daisy. Welcome to the menagerie.
My rabbit memories from childhood, include chasing them in our large backyard with my younger brother, armed with forks. We had some Black and White Dutch rabbits that escaped and interbred with the locals, making for some interesting hybrids. And finally, I have only ever eaten rabbit once when my Grandmother tried to pass it off as chicken. The thought of eating cute little rabbits was enought to pass on that, although my Greek friend Mary swears by rabbit for stew.
