Just as well that the areas where my kids play on the swings are wood chipped. This week we had a sad realisation at one of the local parks here in Canberra where we are on holiday. The kids were too tall for the monkey bars. How sad is that for two wannabee monkeys. They had to improvise, which of course they are good at.
Happy Australia Day Weekend everyone. And for my Scottish Heritage, it is also Burns Night on the 25th. I'll be throwing a haggis on the barbie mate!

Have you taken the kids to Cokckington Green way over north side, with the miniature village and the little steam train that you ride on? My boys loved that place. Straight out of The Borrowers.
And up the other end, out Tuggers way, is Lanyon homestead, really beaut for a calm, quiet wander. I was there the day they planted the Hawthorn hedge near the front entrance.
Wow~!! They are good at improvising those swings. I did not know that they have chipped wood laid on playground. Do they do that everywhere in Australia?

a wonderful post. the concept of outgrowing the monkey bars . i like it. :) for us adults we want to slow time if possible but for kids the journey is ongoing and they grow up so fast

We have sacks of the stuff - use it in the garden but never thought of it.
I had a great adult looking chair as a kid and got a horrible shock when I couldn't sit on it any more.
Well I guess grass wouldn't last long under the swings so chipped wood it is.

Oh, wood chips are great for the chipped theme! They celebrate Burns Night at our local microbrewery and they do serve haggis!

I guess that chipped wood is for shock absorbent. When kids fall on them, it can reduce the fall impact.
