Bananas-for-sex cult leader on the run

Papua New Guinea police are hunting the leader of a sex cult that promised villagers a bumper banana harvest if they engaged in public sex.

The alert was raised after a villager from Yamina in Morobe province walked 12 hours to the nearest town to report the cult's activities.

He told police the cult's leader and his followers have been using threats of violence to force people to have sex in public for the past four months.

The Post Courier reports villagers had been promised their banana harvest would increase every time they fornicated publicly.

Three police officers trekked into the village over the weekend but the leader, identified as Thomas Peli, was able to escape into the bush.

Police reinforcements are being sent to the area.

Sport seems to attract this kind of vile racism. Scottish football fans also have a strong track record in this department.

Eighteen years later a vile minority of Airdrie supporters taunting Gretna’s Mathew Berkeley by donning Ku Klux Klan hoods.

There has to be line in the sand with this kind of stuff.

New Zealand Spits Pips over 86 Year Old Apple Ban

Fresh from defending the Banana Barons from cheap Philippine imports, the Australian Government is facing a new front in the Fruit Wars, this time with New Zealand.

Australia has barred New Zealand apples since 1921 after fire blight was found in them.

New Zealand exports about $NZ300 million ($A261.5 million) of apples a year and trade with Australia could initially be worth $NZ9 million. It has been lobbying to have the ban lifted since 1986, based on its assertion commercially traded apples do not carry fire blight.

"Eighty-six years seems enough for New Zealand to wait for access to the Australian market for New Zealand apples. We believe science is on our side, and we believe we will win this case."

Fire blight is a bacterial disease that attacks apple and pear trees as well as rosebushes, giving branches and blossoms a burnt appearance. It can stop fruit from growing and in severe cases can kill the tree.

Ozzie Banana Cartel Up and Running Again

After a year of shutting out reasonably priced bananas from average Australian families and being blamed for contributing to inflation, the good old Ozzie Banana is back on the shelves under $5 a kilo. Banana plantations destroyed by Cyclone Larry have been replaced and the first harvest is starting to hit the shops. Still not cheap, but beginning to be affordable. The banana lobby held firm and will once again control the market. So much for the free market. It is fine if it is manufacturing and companies are allowed to go to the wall, but don't mess with agricultural commodities. Must be an election coming up.

Where are the Bloody Bananas?

I was out shopping this morning and noticed that bananas are still pathetically small and expensive. Apparently the promised return of cheap and plentiful bananas in time for Christmas is in jeopardy, because of a severe shortage of fruit pickers in formerly Cyclone Larry ravaged Northern Queensland. Things must be fixed up there, because General Peter Cosgrove is out hawking his new book, so where are the bananas?.

The Australian Banana Growers' Council says after Cyclone Larry wiped out most of the nation's banana crop in March, many of the industry's long-term workers moved away to find jobs elsewhere. Now with a much-awaited new crop coming to maturity in north Queensland,the Council is worried that there wont be enough hands to pick hands of bananas.

This is up there with Honest Johns promise on interest rates. The whole reason for waiting this long for bananas is to protect the banana industry. Well enough is enough. We want our bananas and we want them now! Where are those short term visa holders with specialised banana picking skills?
