Big Ben celebrates its 150th birthday - Telegraph

Some great photographs and trivia to celebrate Big Ben's 150 years of duty. I used to love to cycle past it when I lived in London in the late 70s. I particularly liked the use of old pennies to advance and slow down the clock.

Photo Hunt: Family

This is posted very late, but busy busy busy with family stuff. Yesterday and today was garden renovation central, parties, friend visiting, shopping and a Number One Buzz for my hair. That is the shortest I have ever had it. Other than the convict look, I quite like it. Oh and it was 33 degrees. Pretty hot.

Today is my 49th Birthday, complete with party hat and it was Little Athletics with Hannah in the morning, climbing onto the roof to fiddle with the air conditioner, a  visit to the Australian Native Plant Show, baking a cake with the kids, more gardening and some dinner cooking. No days off for me. We got some nice Kangaroo Paws for the front garden. I learned that my lack of success in the past with them was likely overwatering. That is not much of an issue now with water restrictions. Perhaps they will
actually flower.

The cake was good too and the kids enjoyed blowing it out with me. Nothing like a family weekend.

Happy Birthday Elizabeth

This is one of my favourites from here early years before I knew her. She recently scanned in all the photographs that she could find. I was amazed how many there were and so many in colour. I have hardly any in colour until I was about 10. Our Box Brownie was put to fairly regular use, but you could only take 8 in a roll so shots were very selective.

We had a little party last night, which the kids were very keen to organise the night before. Last night they just wanted to play on the computer, watch the television and hang out with mum. The social organiser had to do all the cooking and dusting. They did eat some cake, which was decorated pancakes in the shape of her age, and sing Happy Birthday at least. We had a party earlier at Granny's on the weekend. Perhaps they were partied out.

Happy Birthday Hannah and Ryan

Surgeons in India began a marathon operation on Tuesday to save a two-year-old girl born with eight limbs.

Thirty-six doctors covering a range of specialties from pediatrics to plastic surgery are involved in the 40-hour operation at the Sparsh Hospital in Bangalore.

Doctors believe Lakshmi, who was born attached to a headless conjoined twin that stopped developing in the womb, has an 80 per cent chance of surviving the procedure.

Our kids have their birthdays this week. We are busy wrapping presents and icing cakes late at night. Hannah is nine tomorrow. Ryan is seven on Saturday. We are lucky that they are such nice and trouble free kids. Seeing this young girl reminds me how lucky we are. I hope that she can be helped by some clever doctors.

Update: The amazing x ray is here.

It's that Day Again

Hannah got up early to make this for my 48th Birthday. Thanks Hannah. I love you too.

Hoorah!

Happy Birthday Your Majesty.

Another year Charles and Camilla are not King and Queen.

Inspired by Theo Spark, with his first posting of a lady with a top on. I don't think Her Majesty fits into the Totty Category.
