Stephen Hawking Dismisses God and Calls Heaven a “Fairy Story” (VIDEO)

Noted theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking is trending after he dismissed the idea of heaven as "a fairy story." In an upcoming interview with the Guardian, Hawking said, "There is no heaven or afterlife ... that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark."

He has come under fire from religious circles before, most recently after his book, The Grand Design, argued that god did not create the universe and that the Big Bang was a natural event that could've created everything from nothing.

Planking: Darwin Awards Here We Come

Yesterday, I had no idea what this was about. Leaving aside the sad events of a drunk falling off a building in Brisbane, this does not seem so dangerous when you are drunk and with your mates. I just do not believe that stopping planking is going to stop drunk fools from killing themselves. Easy to stereotype, but I can assure you that I have never done this before, even when drunk. I survived, but there goes others.

I speak as someone, who should be dead due to other activities done when drunk such as driving, mountain climbing, walking, kayaking, diving, skiing, scuba diving, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, being over fifty, being severely depressed. I could go on.

No excuses. I have given up many of those things, most significantly, driving. I understand now, that I was risking and endangering other people. That is not acceptable. Risking yourself is your own choice, although it will have very significant impacts on other people including your family and friends.

Do we appeal to Tony Abbott to Stop the Planking? No we must take responsibility and politely advise young people that there are some risks associated with getting drunk and doing stuff.

The reality is that many of these personal stunts are great candidates for the Darwin Awards. Is that the way you want to be remembered?

Rapture Relief Please Give Generously

Some evangelicals in the US are claiming that the rapture will happen on May 21, when only the most worthy Christians will be saved and the rest of humanity will suffer for 5 months.
A group of atheists are raising money so they can help out those who are `left behind`, and if the rapture doesn't actually happen, use the cash raised to help teach kids critical thinking.

Tea Chest Base at the Whitmore Hotel

Thursday night is a jam session at the Whitmore Hotel in Adelaide. This week the traditional double bass was replaced by a Tea Chest Double Bass played by Peter. I had never seen one before, but was very impressed by the range of sounds emanating from the sound box. As you can see,  Peter also plays the wash board and uses the sound box as an impromptu drum. My kind of musician.

SCARED of zombies? Concerned about the apocalypse? Have we got the house for you.
A Polish architectural firm has designed the world's first zombie-proof abode — the "Safe House".
It's not really inspired by the walking dead, but it's been getting plenty of attention as the world celebrates its fifth annual Zombie Awareness Month.
Built between 2005 and 2009, the house features Rubik's Cube-type movable parts and folds in on itself completely at the end of the day to seal against outside threats.
"Every day the house acts in a similar way — it wakes up every morning to close up after dusk," says architect Robert Konieczny.

Photo Hunt: Missing

As part of our seafood series of lessons, I made a smoked trout potato salad and Gravalax Salmon dish. Chef called them totem poles. Gravalax is a Swedish way of preserving fish using salt. Similar in taste to smoked salmon. All that is missing on this plate is the Gravalax Salmon around the outside, some garnish and a few more on the plate.

BBC NEWS | Health | Feeling grumpy 'is good for you'

In a bad mood? Don't worry - according to research, it's good for you.
An Australian psychology expert who has been studying emotions has found being grumpy makes us think more clearly.
In contrast to those annoying happy types, miserable people are better at decision-making and less gullible, his experiments showed.
While cheerfulness fosters creativity, gloominess breeds attentiveness and careful thinking, Professor Joe Forgas told Australian Science Magazine.
'Eeyore days'
The University of New South Wales researcher says a grumpy person can cope with more demanding situations than a happy one because of the way the brain
"promotes information processing strategies".

The woman, who was described as being in her 60s, was in shop in the town of Arona, about 10 miles from the popular beach resort of Los Christianos, when she was brutally stabbed to and then decapitated.

According to witnesses, the attacker, who is thought to be a homeless man of Bulgarian origin, entered the store, grabbed a knife and launched a frenzied and unprovoked attack on the woman.

He then decapitated her before leaving the store carrying her head.
Holidaymakers and locals on the Spanish island described their complete shock and horror after witnessing the scene, which took place at around 10.30am local time (9.30am GMT) on Friday.
