That is the first I have ever heard of any attempts to rescue people by helicopter.

We have had a couple of fires in high-rise buildings, and there were no fatalities -- everyone was rescued, most of those above the fire were rescued by helicopter. Yet it seems that in this case no one was rescued in this way. That raises all sorts of questions.
