Happy Holidays in America
After spending many years in America and enjoying the public holidays, it is a bit odd to be in other countries where the 4th of July, Memorial Day, Labor Day and Thanksgiving are just other days in the year. Today is just a work day here in Adelaide and most people would have no idea what an important holiday it is in America.
I used to enjoy all these holidays, which have increased importance in America because of the culture of work and limited vacation time for many people.
My best memories from the Fourth of July were in Washington DC, not so much on the mall, but along the Potomac River in the evening with many groups enjoying the warm weather and picnicking prior to and during the fireworks. I enjoyed the simple patriotism of the flags being flown in front gardens and the general celebration of being American.
Thanksgiving was a great holiday. We always spent it with some part of the family. I enjoyed the long trips to Vermont to share Thanksgiving Dinner with my former wifes family. Turkey and Cranberry Sauce, yum. It took me about 5 years to work out that the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys always played at home on that Thursday.
Memorial Day and Labor Day were most memorable because of the traffic tie ups on the way to the Maryland Coast and Ocean City. I never did do that. We usually stayed at home by the pool and avoided everyone.
Anyway many happy memories of American Public Holidays. Happy 4th of July America!

And a happy 4th to you too :)
Even though it's not celebrated there, it should be.
Thanks! The fireworks were lovely tonight. My son got to see them for the first time.

Thanks for the promotion. My stats were very good this week.
I am sure if I was to do the same thing, you would hardly notice.
