Mr Whippy? No, I'm a speed cop in disguise

Police in New Zealand, frustrated by a rural grapevine that tips off drunken drivers whenever checkpoints are set up, are taking to the roads in ice cream vans playing Greensleeves. The ruse was admitted recently "It is pretty easy to tell what an undercover police car looks like "We have to be sneaky to catch these people", say the coppers.

The subterfuge came to light after a parent complained that children had been upset when they approached an ice cream van to buy a cornet."They were scared because there was a big, burly policeman in the back."

In another twist on the violation of childrens rights, the Orange County Sheriff's Office is doing something about rampant speeding in their patch, launching Operation ELF: Enforcing Limits and Fining speeders. Over 150 people had their seasonal goodwill violated in just two hours. Thanks Dizzy for this one.

With tactics like these, their colleagues can have little rest.

That's the limit. The Chinese will be watching and modelling their execution vans on this next.
